Last week March 24, 2023, Ohio Northern University hosted a social media workshop. I attended and I've got to admit it was pretty interesting listening to the guest speakers. Not just because the topics themselves were interesting, but it was because it was the first time I have been to something like this. It was really cool to go to listen to someone talk about something relating to my major in that way. I mean yeah I take classes that revolve around social media, but this was a different context than a lecture. I felt like a part of the industry in a small way, even if all I did was listen and live tweet. Out of all the speakers and topics that were discussed that day, the podcasting one and the social media audit ones were the most memorable to me besides the Disney guy, I don't remember his name but I am pretty sure his first name is Steven.
The podcast discussion was memorable not only because I am a podcast creator myself, but also because the person giving the talk was none other than Gregory Phipps himself who is also my professor for the podcasting course I am in. It was kind of weird seeing him outside his classroom. He went over some things he had talked about in class already, so it was sort of like a quick refresher for me about class content. The speaker directly after him, whose name I do not remember. I did not go into this talk knowing what a social media audit was, but I left informed, well informed infect. I learned what a social media audit is and what it's results could mean and be used for. I learned why you would want to conduct one and how. Really interesting stuff, I won't just rehash what she said, but I am a fan with the way she presented it. The slides were clean and the way it was explained wasn't too wordy or filled with jargon or anything. It was simple and easy to understand.
Those two were the most memorable, and were my candidates to live tweet to. After that I didn't really document anything else from the other speakers. That's not to say what they talked about wasn't interesting enough to document, its just that I had used the first two before hand. Anyways I definitely enjoyed the experience and I hope to go to it again the next time it happens. Hopefully its hosted at ONU again, if not then I might make the drive to wherever the host it if it isn't too far away.
