Preperation: The Backbone of Content Creation

Chapter 12 gives us brief introductions to more broader content outlets that aren't specific to a certain app or website, such as podcasts, blogs, and webinars. While the chapter was mostly the pros and cons of each outlet and tips to succeed with them, something I took away was the preparation aspect of creating content like this. When I think about podcasts or blogs I only look at the finished product, and not the process that it resulted from. The more and more I read and thought about it, the more I began realizing the amount of effort and work it takes to make a successful podcast, blog, etc. All the things that seem so obvious like thinking of a topic or focus, making the content digestible to the audience, and even making attention grabbing titles are all things I think we take for granted.

Getting back into the swing of thing

For most people coming back from break may be somewhat of an easy transition, for myself however it has been quite the opposite. I’m not really known to have the best sleep schedule, nor am I known for my timeliness, but this semester can either start off well or be a repeat of last semester if I let it. As of now it could still go either way, I am putting in a real effort to show up to classes, and actually do things on time, there I still feel a sense of failure that somehow carried over from last semester. I found myself checking my class Moodle pages to see if I had really finished all the work I had assigned, which I did, but I still had a nagging feeling that I had forgotten something. Last semester was probably one of the worst semesters I’ve had at ONU, but I want to leave that all behind and start over and do better than before.

Content, Content, Content!

This semester I’ve realized that a large chunk of my classes have something to do with content creation. I’ve always wanted to learn how to manage and  create content, so I made sure to get into these types of courses for the semester. I’m not really sure if I am in over my head yet, but I’m sure that if I don’t let work build up at the start then I can probably get through the semester. I’m most excited about starting a podcast, I’m not really sure what it would even be about, but I hope I can find a topic that is interesting to me and to the audience. There is some content I would love to make, but the audience would be too niche to really share with other people in the class. Ideally, I would want to talk about one of my hobbies, like maybe a genre of games, or even a specific game, but I know finding that audience wouldn’t be easy, and people from my class wouldn’t really know anything about the topic. I mean I guess my goal could be to make the topic more digestible to those who aren’t actively involved in the community, but there is just so much that I would probably just be me rambling about nonsense for 20 minutes. I’ll post an update whenever I decide on a topic.

How has the shift back into school life been for you?  What kind content do you engage with most often?
